Occupational English Test

The Occupational English Test – OET – is the world’s only International English test specifically for healthcare professionals, enabling you to use your qualifications and work experience across borders. The test provides a valid and reliable assessment of all four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – with an emphasis on communication in healthcare professional settings.

Test materials are developed in consultation with subject matter experts and replicate the English language skills required in healthcare settings to deliver high-quality care and patient safety. OET covers practitioners of 12 popular healthcare professions, including , , , , , , , , , , and .

About OET

OET is a thorough, paper-based test of all areas of language ability. It consists of four sections:

  • Listening (approximately 45 minutes)
  • Reading (60 minutes)
  • Writing (45 minutes)
  • Speaking (approximately 20-25 minutes)

Results are published online 16 days after the test. You can access your results online, via a secure portal, and they will also be posted to you.

On The Day

We expect you to arrive at our Hammersmith & Fulham College reception between 8am and 8:30am. If you arrive after 8:30am, regardless of the reason, you will unfortunately not be permitted to take the OET. Before the start of the OET Listening test, all candidates must go through the OET candidate journey which includes cloakroom, ID and security checks and registration, finger scans, digital photos, pre-test instructions and paperwork. The nearest underground tube station to Hammersmith & Fulham College is Baron’s Court. If you are driving, please use â€˜ on Google and Apple Maps. If you have to drive, please search for the nearest available car park on the . The pedestrian entrance to the college is by the large stairwell on the corner of Gliddon Road and Talgarth Road.

Facilities 
There are cafes and food shops conveniently located near Baron’s Court station. Vending machines and water fountains are also available.

Candidates are expected to behave in an acceptable, respectful manner. Our Test Centre follows the guidelines concerning Zero Tolerance. Any incident in which an employee is abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work is unacceptable and not tolerated. Candidates who use abusive language or demonstrate threatening behaviour will be immediately asked to leave the premises and may be reported to the OET Head Office.
